Fostering growth and sustainability of the reference Open Source machine-learning toolbox
Scikit-learn is the ubiquitous machine learning library downloaded 1.5 billion times over the past decade, 68 million times per month worldwide. Or more simply, it is used by 99% breathing data scientist on the planet.
At Probabl, we are making a strong contribution to making it last:
-
10 full-time contributors in our Open Source team, including 5 scikit-learn core developers
-
Admin and Operations backend / support of the library
-
scikit-learn user & trainer certifications
-
scikit-learn official brand operator
Official Brand Operator of scikit-learn
brought to you by co-founders and core developers of the library.
INRIA is the sole owner of a portfolio of trademarks and domain names related to scikit-learn. Between 2019 and 2024, the INRIA Foundation, through a consortium dedicated to scikit-learn and bringing together core contributors and sponsors, had the mission of raising funds to pay for full time maintainer time, and ensuring that they were invested in the interest of the community, as well as promoting the project and the brand.
Since May 2024, INRIA and Probabl have entered into a contract that entrusts Probabl with the role of Brand Operator, thus entrusting it with a set of actions and responsibilities within the framework of the license and the missions assigned to it and defined by this contract. INRIA grants Probabl the exclusive right to use the brands, in particular around post-industrialization considerations and with commercial players.
With its scikit-learn Open Source Sponsorship program, probabl is committed to take the traditional donation-based funding model to the next level, delivering more value to donors and bringing higher, regular and predictable funding to the project.
